How to pray the Litany of Saint Joseph (2023)

Saint Joseph, husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus, is celebrated individually on two feast days. On March 19 we celebrate St. Joseph, the bridegroom of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a few months later, on May 1, St. Joseph the worker. Family and example of holiness, humility, diligence and loyalty.

Pray the Litany of Saint Joseph on your holidays or any other day to ask for his intercession in your life.

I have a great love for Saint Joseph because he is a man of calm and strength. On my desk I have a photo of Saint Joseph sleeping. Even when he sleeps, he takes care of the church! Yeah! We know he can. So, when I have a problem, a difficulty, I write a little note and put it under São José so that he dreams. In other words I say:Let's pray for this problem!

About San Jose

Saint Joseph is the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus. As we read in the Gospels, Joseph was from the lineage of David:to connectGod's promise in the Old Testament (Old Covenant) with His promise in the New Testament (New Covenant, Jesus). Although we never hear of Joseph in the Gospels, we know a lot about him from the stories we read about him. As Saint (then Pope) John Paul IIshouttheyGuardian of the Redeemer,

The Gospels speak only of what Joseph "did." However, in his "actions" -shrouded in silence- they allow us to discover an aura of deep contemplation. Joseph was in daily contact with the secret "hidden since ancient times" that "dwelt" under his roof.

JPII, Guardian of the Redeemer (August 15, 1989)

This first example of silent action in the Gospels is Joseph's first "yes" to God (Mateo 18).

“Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. Her mother, Maria, was engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together it was discovered that she was pregnant with the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, who was a just man and did not want to expose her to her public disgrace, planned to divorce her discreetly. But just as he was making a decision, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to marry Mary, for the son she has borne is hers, the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”…When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him;He took her as his wife, but did not have marital relations with her until she gave birth to a son and named him Jesus.

The Lord speaks to Joseph through a dream; Joseph carefully considers what to do and how to respond to this call. Joseph's merciful acceptance of his calling as father, husband, and worker is present in the gospels and details the early life of Christ.

“The figure of Saint Joseph evokes the urgency of giving soul to the world of work. His life, configured by listening to God and intimacy with Christ, is presented as a harmonious synthesis of faith and life, of personal fulfillment and charity, of daily commitment and trust in the future”.

John Paul II on the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, 1997

many scholarsbelieveJoseph died before Jesus began his ministry because Mary was present in many of the gospels without him. This did not diminish his life as an unwavering example of holiness, discernment, and calling among saints, theologians, and the church at large. Devotion to Saint Joseph also resurfaced in 2021, declared by Pope Francis as the Year of Saint Joseph.
